Trip Overview

The Everest Three Pass Trek is around 18 days of challenging yet rewarding trekking in the three high-altitude passes, namely, Cho La Pass (5420 m), Renjo La Pass (5465 m), and Khongma La Pass (5,535 m).  Everest Three Passes Trek is further recognized for its stepping trekking experience at the altitude of 5545 m. 

As you ascend from a small village in Lukla, which is the gateway to the Everest region, you will be treated to panoramic views of the Himalayas and Everest Region. You can conquer Namche Bazaar, Everest Base Camp, Kala Patthar, and Gokyo Lakes in the Khumbu region. Further, you will pass through the enormous Dudh Koshi River along with the intense Gompas and Temples. 

This Everest Three Passes Trek will take you through the Sagarmatha National Park, which covers an area of 1148 sq. km. This epic adventure through the hearts of the Khumbu region in Nepal will present you with breathtaking views of the Everest massif and the surrounding peaks.

Trip Itinerary

Day 01

Your day of arrival in Kathmandu will be the first day to begin with. Our welcoming services include picking you up from the Tribhuvan International Airport and shifting you to one of the cozy hotel rooms in Kathmandu. 

After unpacking and resting for a while, you can take a walk in the busiest area of Thamel to enjoy the nightlife. On the same day, we can brief you about the upcoming trek plan and, accordingly, proceed ahead the next day. 
 

Day 02


Is this day you need  wake up early in the morning, as the journey begins there after. You are scheduled for an early morning flight to Lukla Airport, also known as Tenzing   Hillary Airport, situated at 2845 m above sea level. This is one of the beautiful airports located at high altitude, which you can explore with your trek guide and groups, if any. 
This domestic airstrip takes about 25 minutes. It offers a majestic view of tranquil hills, lush terrain, and snow-capped mountains. After landing, you can relax yourself with some food and drinks. Further, our day plan continues with a hike for about 3 hours to Phakding village. The village is situated at an altitude of 2610 m, about 6.2 km away from the airport. You will spend your overnight in the tea houses of Phakding villages. 
 

Day 03

During breakfast, we will plan our day with porters and also continue our short ascend to our destination, Namche Bazaar, elevated at an altitude of 3440 m. Throughout the trail, you can cross the Dudh Koshi River and pass by Benkar village, which is the viewpoint of Mt. Thamserkhu (6623 m). 

After hours of walking and bypassing the gateway to Sagarmatha National Park with the needed permits, you will be headed towards Jorsale. It is a village before reaching Namche Bazaar, where your overnight stay is scheduled. You need to cross the Hillary suspension bridge to reach Namche Bazaar after a total of 5 hours of trekking.

Truly, the place is magical; you can have an amazing panorama of Kwangde Peak and Mt. Everest. Lhotse, and other higher peaks from this region. It will be a peaceful night at Namche Bazaar before entering the Khumbu region.
 

Day 04

On the following day,  you can rest at the heart of the Himalayas, explore the Namche Bazaar, and encounter the traditional lifestyle of the Sherpa. With their hospitality, you can give yourself a break and acclimatize for a day. 

Meanwhile, you can take a short hike to the Everest View Hotel for a broader and more majestic view of Mt. Ama Dablam, Everest, Cholatse, and other peaks in the Everest region.
 

Day 05

Your next trek is towards Tengboche, a small village situated at an altitude of 3867 meters. You will reach there after 5 hours of walking. Next, you can have a tour around the Khumjung Monastery, whose rich cultural history has been treasured in the past. 

Joining in the prayers of the Tibetan Buddhist culture will enhance the good spirit within, an added blessing for the memorial experience ahead. You are scheduled to rest at the tea houses in the village of Tengboche, immersing yourself in the culture of the Sherpas.
 

Day 06


The uneven trail to Dingboche takes around 5 hours on average, as you start ascending slowly. By crossing Imja Valley over the Lobuche River and stepping up the terrain, you can capture the serene landscapes at a higher altitude. 

With hours of walking, you can find yourself more close to nature and take a deep breath while rising up to Dingboche village. Upon reaching the lovely village, you can make yourself comfortable at your lodges. 
 

Day 07

The trek from Dingboche to Chhukung is an amazing journey of around 3 to 4 km, which takes around 3 hours. Beginning on your trek in the morning, you can ascend gradually towards your destination. 

You will be delighted to observe the scenic views of the Himalayas, and this pristine beauty truly can touch your soul like no other. What awaits you is more interesting and enjoyable. Within a few hours, you can arrive at a charming village in the Khumbu region, Chhukung. 
 

Day 08

Chhukung is an ideal place where you can rest and acclimatize for a day. By exploring the regions and preparing your body to adapt to the low oxygen, you can further trek to higher elevations. 
You can also trek and hike at Chhukung Ri (5546 m) and Imja Tse (Island Peak) Basecamp for additional adventure and spectacular views. Day 8 marks the time when you train yourself further regarding the next phase of altitude awareness and relaxation. 
 

Day 09

After wrapping up yet another acclimatization day, you wake up the next morning to go on an adventurous trail. Your day begins with a steep climb to the valley of Dugla. This will be the day when you cross the challenging Kong Ma La Pass, where memorials to climbers have been engraved. 
Throughout the journey, you can find beautiful scenery of the Himalayas, Lobuche, Mehra, Nuptse, and other mountains of the Nepal-Tibet border. This panoramic view is worth the challenge. In approximately 4 hours of the journey, you can reach Kongma La Pass (5545 m). After checking on the place, within the next stipulated time of 4 hours, you will be at Lobuche (6119 meters). High above the glaciers, you can find immense pleasure in conquering something beautiful and resting in your tents with your guide and porter. 
 

Day 10

On leaving Lobuche, your next destination is Everest Base Camp, along the Khumbu Glacier, for around 4 to 5 hours. Commencing on this climbing expedition feels surreal. After observing the true majesty of the base camp, you can return to Gorak Shep for an overnight stay. 
 

Day 11

Another significant day will pass when you have a trek from Gorak Shep (5164m) to Kala Patthar (5644m). The astonishing black round will be a spectacular adventure to catch on to. 

Also, reaching Everest View Point will be as exciting as exploring Everest from a closer perspective. After relaxing there for a while, you have 4 to 5 hours of walking scheduled towards Dzongla (4800 m), where you will finish off your day. 
 

Day 12

The trail from Dzongla to Cho La Pass offers magnificent views of Himalayan glaciers. With the steep ascent, you can gear up with Crampons, crossing the loose rocks, mountains, and rivers. You are now reaching Cho La Pass (5,420 m) after 3 hours. 

Your next destination is Thangnak, which resides at an elevation of 4,680m. You will move towards Thangnak. Thereafter, you will have your launch at Thagnak village and end your day at Gokyo, over the tea horses. 
 

Day 13

Heading off to another day of adventure, you reach the Renjo Lake Pass, a narrow valley. The trail alongside Dudh Pokhari and Gokyo villages has a lot to offer. As you continue the 3 to 4-hour trek, you get to have astonishing views of the Himalayas, and reaching Gokyo Ri peak, approximately 5,357 meters, will reward you with breathtaking vistas of the Himalayan giants, Ama Dablam, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, and Makalu.
 

Day 14

After the extraordinary adventure, you can again have an early morning hike to Gokyo Ri Peak for the unforgettable sunrise of your life. You can take an acclimatization and rest day at Gokyo, exploring the village, which is rich in culture, natural beauty, and aquatic presence. Encountering with the local villagers will aid you in learning about their lifestyle and rich culture. 
 

Day 15

Starting from Gokyo village, you will return to Renjo La after 3 hours of walking. The high-altitude trekking has offered you incredible views and memories that you will keep for life. Now descending back to Marulung, you can cover 3.1 miles of walking and explore the lush forests and vegetation, beautifully acknowledging the landscapes of this region. We end our day at the tea houses. 

Day 16

Retracing your steps to Namche Bazaar after completing Namche Bazaar, amidst those challenging ascents, everything will be breathtaking. In this 6-hour journey, you can cross those suspension bridges once again and continue to praise the vistas, lush vegetation, and cultural significance of this region. 
 

Day 17

The trail continues to descend to Lukla from Namche Bazaar, with 5 to 6 hours of walking. Resting and exploring the Lukla region, embracing the rich hospitality, and dining with the local cuisines will be your next activity.
 

Day 18

Finally, the day has arrived when you will return to Kathmandu, the same place where you started your journey a few days ago. This time you returned with rich memories in your heart as you explored the mountains, lush vegetation, and uneven slopes of the high-altitude, which you eagerly wanted.
After 35 minutes of flight, you land in Kathmandu, marking the end of the trek. You will now safely be sent to your hotel for your refreshment and relaxation. 
 

Day 19

This is the time for you to bid your final goodbye to Nepal. After having a fulfilling meal at your hotel in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to the Tribhuwan International Airport for your departure. You can pack early to avoid any last-minute rush and ensure that you enjoy the journey satisfactorily. 

Our representatives from Pure Adventure will provide you with the final farewell at the airport. You can then head towards your homeland, carrying all the memories you made here.

If you are an adventure enthusiast who enjoys challenges, the Everest Three-Pass Trek can be an easy go for you. It is a strenuous, difficult trek to High-altitude mountain passes, Cho La Pass (5420 m), Renjo La Pass (5465 m), and Khongma La Pass (5,535 m). 
 

The Everest Three Passes Trek usually takes between 18 and 21 days, determined based on your fitness level and itinerary schedules. 
 

The Everest Three Pass Trek is not for beginners; it is suggested for hardcore trekkers only. As the adventure includes passages of a challenging and dangerous three-pass trek, having a certain level of fitness and enthusiasm is required.
 

The best time for the Everest Three High Passes Trek is during the spring (April to May) and autumn (September to November). The weather is mild during this time; however, there might be slight rain and snowfall at high altitudes. 

You will need a TIMS card (Trekkers Information Management System), a Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit, a Khumbu Pasang Lahmu Rural Municipality Entry Permit, and an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP).
